The Australian has this for yesterday's headline: "Arroyo ridiculed over phantom fund." The article goes on to read:
GLORIA Arroyo has been ridiculed as "lost in space" and "publicity-hungry" for trumpeting a phantom $10 billion rescue fund for Southeast Asian nations suffering from global financial turmoil.
The Philippines President's defenders scrambled to explain her gaffe as "over-excitement", after World Bank officials denied the claims and the IMF refused to confirm any multilateral rescue plan.
Filipinos are, of course, used to rubbish spewed out by GMA. In GMA's own alternate universe, whatever comes out of her mouth is gospel truth. Outside of it? That's another story. With this faux pas, all the queen's horses and all the queen's PR men would have a daunting task in putting her fragile-as-egg international credibility together again.
